Basic Studies Division Volunteer Tutoring Program

The Basic Studies Tutoring Program provides individual and small group tutoring for adult learners enrolled in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL)classes at Seattle Central Community College. Our mission is to empower adult learners so that they can gain the basic academic skills and develop life-long learning practices.

Description:
Volunteers in our program will be trained to tutor basic reading, writing, math, and ESL, depending on what the volunteer's interest is. Specifically, The Volunteer Tutoring Program offers volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

  • Individual or small group tutoring
  • Classroom instructional aide
  • Talk Time facilitators
  • Language swaps (when available)
  • ESL listening lab

    The Volunteer Tutoring Program is part of the The Basic Studies Division at Seattle Central Community College. Volunteers from the community have been helping ESL and ABE students to advance in their academic skills since the 1980's.
