Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted (CSBPS) works with individuals, families, and communities to help restore, maintain and enhance the independence and well-being of people with impaired vision.
Description:
CSBPS works with people of all ages, but specializes in working with people with age-related vision loss. Our staff focuses on the needs, goals and capabilities of each individual; some clients utilize all services, others use only one or two. CSBPS service area: For people living in King, Snohomish and Skagit Counties in the State of Washington, many CSBPS Programs & Services are provided without charge in homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces. Other services are also available to those who can visit the agency or reach us by phone, mail or e-mail Free in-home services include counseling; instruction in safe and independent travel skills; instruction in home and personal management skills for independent living; and personal service volunteers Services provided at the agency in Seattle include fee-based low vision clinic and rehabilitation service; an assistive technology center; specialty products and adaptive aids sales, as well as educational services, publications, and information and referral; no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
History:
Founded in 1965 as a private, nonprofit agency, CSBPS is registered as a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization with the IRS and is on file with the Secretary of State ((800) 332-GIVE). The agency is governed by a volunteer board of directors. CSBPS Programs & Services are primarily funded through the collection and resale of new & used clothing and reusable household items through our Used Merchandise Solicitation Division (UMSD) and by our affiliation with the United Ways of King and Snohomish Counties. Additional funding comes from private donations, government contracts, and fees for service. At CSBPS, 81 percent of net revenues raised goes directly to programs and services for blind and partially sighted people in the community.
