YWCA South King County
Last updated on July 8, 2008

Our mission is to advance the quality of life for women of all ages, races, faiths, and their families. In support of our mission, the YWCA provides services to meet critical needs, promote self-sufficiency, reduce violence, and achieve equal opportunities for all people.

Description:
Our services in South King County include emergency and transitional housing programs for homeless families, including Anita Vista, a confidential housing program for victims of domestic violence. We also provide limited rental assistance funds. The YWCA Youth Options program is a training and employment program for out-of-school youth. Our domestic violence community advocates provide support and referral services to victims of domestic violence throughout South King County.

History:
Throughout its rich history, the YWCA has remained true to its mission of advancing the quality of life for women of all ages, races, faiths, and their families. The YWCA has been active in the Seattle area since the early 1900's, adapting its services and facilities to meet emerging community priorities. The YWCA expanded its services to South King County in 1965 when the YWCA opened the then East Valley Branch. In 1991 the YWCA undertook the development of Anita Vista, a confidential transitional housing program for victims of domestic violence in South King County. In 1998 the YWCA collaborated with the King County Housing Authority to provide employment services at the Youngs Lake public housing development in Renton. In 2000 the YWCA South King County Center for Women and Families opened in Renton, combining access to youth employment, emergency and transitional housing, domestic violence advocacy, and family support services in one location.
