Wonderland Developmental Center

Last updated on October 6, 2008

Wonderland Developmental Center's mission is to optimize the development of babies and children by providing therapy, instruction, and parent education and support wherever children live, learn, and play.

Description:
Based in Shoreline, Washington, Wonderland Developmental Center (WDC) serves children age birth to three with developmental delays and disabilities and their families in north King and south Snohomish counties. Children attending WDC have a broad range of diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, dwarfism, spina bifida, Down Syndrome, FAS, and autism. We believe all children can achieve and we work to provide developmentally appropriate therapy services and classroom experiences in the home, in the classroom, or in the community. Depending on their needs, children receive individual and/or group therapeutic services one to four times a week while all parents are offered parent education and support at least weekly.

Early intervention is critical for these children. The first three years are most critical in terms of brain growth and development (mental, physical, and emotional), and early intervention can have a profound impact on the child and the family.

History:
Founded 1969, Wonderland's genesis was simply a way for three young children with developmental disabilities to receive early intervention; at that time, such intervention programs were virtually nonexistent. More than 800 North King/South Snohomish county area children have been served through our developmental classroom and individual therapy services since 1969. We are committed to our long-range goals of providing a level/range of services more closely aligned with best practices for each child's needs and serving a larger percentage of those needing these services in our area and working to build agency capacity.
