Hopelink's mission is to promote self-sufficiency for families in our community, helping people make lasting change.
Description:
Hopelink serves homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. Our goal is to help families move out of crisis and into self-sufficiency. Because every family has a unique combination of strengths and obstacles, Hopelink offers a broad range of services and a holistic model that looks at all aspects of a family's life. Our services range from those that are immediate and crisis-oriented (food, emergency shelter, eviction-prevention) to longer-term programs (literacy, family development) that help families get back on their feet and thrive. We believe that self-sufficiency does not come from hand-outs, but from helping the family realize their strengths, address all their obstacles, and hold a realistic vision of a better life for themselves. We believe that all families have strengths, and that all families can turn their lives around, changing cycles of poverty and hopelessness into cycles of success and self-sufficiency. And we believe that stronger families make stronger communities.
History:
Since 1971, Hopelink has helped homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. Hopelink is the Eastside's largest nonprofit human-services agency. We are a community resource on issues of poverty, hunger and homelessness, working on a systemic level to end poverty and support the health of our community. We serve over 50,000 people each year. Children constitute 45% of Hopelink's emergency-service clients. Most of them are from working-poor families. Fifteen percent of our clients are elderly or disabled. Our six emergency-Service Centers are located in Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Northshore, Sno-Valley, and Shoreline. Each center operates weekly foodbanks and is a point of access to all Hopelink programs and services. Other Hopelink facilities include our Emergency Family Shelter in Kenmore, Transitional Housing facilities in Bellevue and Redmond, the Adelle Maxwell Child Development Center in Bellevue, Overlake Child Development Center in Redmond, and Adult Education Centers in Bellevue and Duvall. Hopelink services are funded by many diverse sources, including public and private foundations, United Way, government Support, and most of all, by donations from individuals, organizations and corporations in out community. In addition to these crucial resources, Hopelink could not function without its more than 1700 volunteers, who contribute 50,000 hours of service each year. Hopelink runs efficiently by keeping expenses low: with administrative costs at only eight percent of our budget, a full 92% of financial support goes directly to helping families in crisis and preventing homelessness.
