The Executive Service Corps of Washington (ESC) provides high quality, affordable consulting, coaching, and training services to nonprofits, schools, and public agencies utilizing the skills of experienced volunteers. ESC's mission is to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations and strengthen communities in Washington State. ESC offers our volunteers an opportunity to undertake new and rewarding challenges while making a significant contribution to the community.

Description:
Executive Service Corps of Washington (ESC) is one of 34 ESCs in the U.S. Consulting services are provided on a sliding scale. A well-defined consulting agreement guides the consultants, and ESC staff monitors each project.

ESC's consultant corps includes over 100 men and women who donate their time and services. Some are retired from the senior ranks of business, education, nonprofit management, government, and other professions. Many are active professionals, including professional consultants who provide services pro bono through ESC. Most have substantial experience on nonprofit boards and as volunteers.

ESC consulting projects include strategic planning, project management, board development and recruitment, coaching (board presidents and executive directors), facilitation/meeting design and financial assessments.

ESC does not do "fly-by" consulting. Projects last for an average of six months. Consultants get to know the client organization, provide practical hands-on assistance with critical projects, and stay involved to make sure that the organization is prepared to continue with the work once the consultants are gone. As a result, 100% of those responding to our evaluations over the last 3 years have said they would work with ESC again, and 100% would refer other non-profits to ESC.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
As an independent advisor, I have been able to influence organizations at the strategic level that even a board member cannot do.
I have engaged in a half-dozen projects with ESC involving a broad range of agencies in the social services and arts sectors. All of the assignments have been personally rewarding and have seemed to make a significant difference in the top-level operation of the organizations. In the process, I have developed new and valuable skills. The projects have expanded my networking and my involvement in the community, and have served as a valuable complement to my service on several Seattle area nonprofit boards

Great opportunity to give back and use my experience and skills
I have worked with ESC as a volunteer consultant for more than 3 years. I've had a chance to work with a variety of clients in arts and social services where I've both learned how work in the nonprofit sector and contributed in a meaningful way to the success of the organizations I worked with.

I have rarely experienced so much satisfaction from leveraging my skills
I worked with another volunteer executive to assist two small, but growing Nonprofits: Mavin Foundation which dedicates itself to understanding and supporting mutiracial issues, and OWN which aspires to advance its One World NOW philosophy by teaching underprivileged youth leadership skills, foreign languages accompanied by a summer abroad experience.
