The mission of WWEE is to assist low-income individuals to gain the skills, the knowledge, and the courage to be self-supporting.
WWEE envisions a robust community that empowers all its members to achieve meaningful careers, that are both self-sustaining and self-actualizing.
Description:
Washington Women's Employment and Education (WWEE) provides job readiness training and support services to residents of Pierce and King counties in Washington state. The agency's goal is to help clients help themselves become self-sufficient. Attaining self-sufficiency requires more than just getting a job. The average income for participants entering the WWEE program, most of whom are single parents with two children, is about $686 per month. WWEE programs work to help low-income individuals remove the barriers to success, including lack of education and/or employable skills, inadequate childcare and limited transportation, limited work history, and vague goals and objectives. If these barriers are not removed, even the most motivated individuals can fall back on public assistance several times before ending their dependence on welfare grants and reaching self-sufficiency.
History:
Since 1982, WWEE has assisted over 11,000 low-income individuals by getting them on the path to attaining self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. One year after completing WWEE's program, the majority of WWEE graduates are employed, in school, or in a post-training job search.
