Ryther Child Center
[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on August 15, 2008

Ryther Child Center brings hope and healing to children suffering from physical and sexual abuse, mental illness and chemical addiction.

Description:
A nationally-accredited children's behavioral health facility, Ryther Child Center offers leadership in treating children struggling with the most challenging problems facing young people today. Our residential and outpatient programs heal children with severe behavioral, emotional and developmental disabilities.

Programs:
Our residential programs provide treatment and a home to children who have been physically and sexually abused, struggle with chemical dependency or who are undergoing major life crises and transitions.

Ryther provides a spectrum of services for the younger children that includes therapeutic foster care. Specially trained, thoroughly screened, monitored and supported, Ryther's foster parents are among the very best available anywhere.

Mental health care and substance abuse treatment is provided to youth through our outpatient programs.

Ryther chemical dependency specialists work in other agencies throughout Seattle who care for drug-impacted youth.

History:
From its humble beginnings in 1883 when Olive "Mother" Ryther took in three orphaned children, Ryther Child Center has grown to become a nationally recognized leader in treating children who struggle with severe problems. Mother Ryther cared for over 3,000 children during her lifetime. After her death in the 1930s, Seattle's Community Chest (a precursor to the United Way of King County) stepped in to ensure that Mother Ryther's children would still have a home. Incorporated as a not-for-profit in the 1940s, Ryther's mission to care for children with no other place to turn has not changed.
