Kent Food Bank & Emergency Services
[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on March 19, 2008

In order to fulfill our mission we will: operate a center to supply food, clothing and referrals to persons in need within our service area. Also to help people achieve greater self-sufficiency.

Description:
The Kent Food Bank is one of the larger food banks in South King County.Clients may visit monthly for food, clothes and Government commodities and weekly for perishable items. Homeless individuals/families may visit weekly for special quick or "no cook" bags. Limited financial assistance for help with basic needs, such as housing/shelter, utility bill or medicine. Assistance is also given to link individuals with needed resources in the community. Services are provided in a manner that builds on individual's strengths and encourages self-sufficiency.

History:
The Kent Food Bank started in 1970 as a temporary food and clothing bank for Kent area residents. It has since grown into a permanent agency. In 2004 it served 5,253 unduplicated households. The make up of the City has changed dramatically over the past ten years with waves of immigrant families from various world regions relocating to this area. It is home to diverse ethnic and racial groups who compose 32.9% of its total population. We address ease of access to services designed to strengthen family functioning and improve self-sufficiency.

Volunteer Reflections    Post Your Own!

Overall Experience    Experience rating
Have not volunteered there yet....but
I wanted to say what wonderful people they are. I am usually a volunteer but after my husband left suddenly, I was left with very little resources and the Kent food bank helped me in more ways than I had asked for and am forever grateful. Very good organization to volunteer for!
