Cancer Lifeline works to optimize the quality of life for people living with cancer.
Description:
Cancer Lifeline provides a unique array of services to cancer patients, their family members, caregivers, friends, and co-workers. Our programs are based on four vital needs of people living with cancer: Choice and control; Information; Inclusion rather than isolation; and Freedom to express feelings without being judged. People all over Washington state use the toll-free "Lifeline" for emotional support and information; those in the Puget Sound region can also take advantage of classes, programs, and resources offered at the Dorthy S. O'Brien Center.
History:
Cancer Lifeline is a non-profit organization that has been serving Washington residents since 1973 and has been a United Way partner agency since 1975. It was founded by a patient who could not find the community resources and support she needed to help her live with cancer. Gifts and grants provide most of our support and enable Cancer Lifeline to serve more than 6,000 people a year. In 1998, Cancer Lifeline moved to the Dorothy S. O'Brien Center just west of Green Lake in north Seattle.
