The mission of Washington State CASA is to support member CASA/GAL Programs in providing trained volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system.
Description:
The Washington State Association of CASA/GAL Programs provides training and training materials for volunteers. We produce and distribute recruitment materials and provide funding to the 33 Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs in the State. The organization also provides public and legislative education in matters related to abused and neglected children and volunteer advocates.
History:
Washington State CASA began when local CASA program managers decided to form a statewide network for training and communication. The Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in 1988. Member programs of the association currently provide volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children in 33 of the state's 39 counties. In 2001, 6 state association staff provided training and technical support to 110 CASA program staff who supervised and supported 1,915 volunteers who gave voice to 6,556 children.
