"To provide dignity, care and compassion through action with the example that each person can make a difference. To educate and advocate acceptance and understanding of each other's differences. To ultimately bring about the realization that we are all a vital part of this world and with extended effort put an end to homelessness, hunger and hatred".
Description:
Operation: Sack Lunch, now in its eighteenth year of service, is the largest and the only, Health Department compliant, outside congregate meal and basic necessities provider in the State of Washington. We provide nutritional meals and basic life necessities to the homeless children, teens, women and men, who congregate in Seattle. We also provide emergency housing assistance and education assistance. In the greater community we provide pro-active volunteer opportunities and a compelling education presentation for schools, civic and faith based organizations and businesses on poverty, hunger, homelessness, community service, and discrimination awareness.
History:
In 1989, our Founding Executive Director packed up 30 lunches in her kitchen and took them down to the streets of Seattle every week. 30 lunches has grown to over 4000 per week. OPERATION: Sack Lunch has 7 staff members, but we could not provide all of these meals with out our volunteers.
