FamilyWorks, a food bank and family center, nourishes and strengthens individuals and families by connecting people with support, resources, and community. Our vision is a vibrant and healthy community with strong, well-nourished families as the foundation.

Description:
The FamilyWorks Food Bank (formerly the Fremont Food Bank) is a place where people can select groceries from food distributed by Northwest Harvest, Food Lifeline, collected from area grocery stores, community groups and neighbors. Each year the Food Bank serves over 47,800 bags of groceries to individuals and families. Through collaborations with community groups such as Food Security for Children and WIC, we are able to provide supplemental infant formula, baby food, diapers and other baby supplies. Volunteers conduct food drives in order to stock food for those with special dietary needs. We serve people residing in zip codes 98103, 98107, 98115 and 98133.

The FamilyWorks Resource Center is a gathering place for people in the community to share information and support. The Resource Center provides parenting classes, playgroups, after-school tutoring, life skills classes, support groups and employment resources. Its program goals include helping families to: promote early learning and prepare children for school, develop positive family relationships and family management skills, increase connections with neighbors and peers, and develop economic self-sufficiency.

Board Experience
I currently serve on the FamilyWorks Board of Directors and find that we are able to balance meeting the needs of the North Seattle community and have fun at the same time. I strongly encourage people to volunteer at the food bank or family resource center...or join the board! It will be a very valuable experience.
