The Danny Woo Community Garden was built in 1975 to serve the low-income seniors of Seattle's International District. The garden's one and a half acres are home to 101 garden plots tended by community residents as well as 77 fruit trees that provide a unique, community tended greenspace in the heart of the city.
Description:
InterIm Community Development Association has managed the Danny Woo Garden since it began in 1975. InterIm works to maintain the affordability, livability, and character of the International District. We work develop community-based revitalization of Seattle's Asian-American community. We work in the areas of community development planning and advocacy, affordable housing development, community economic development, public policy advocacy, the establishment and support of community-based organizations, the Danny Woo International District Community Garden, and community parking programs.
History:
For over 30 years, InterIm Community Development Association has been working to help revitalize the Chinatown/International District community in Seattle. InterIm was originally established as the International District Improvement Association, by the International District business community in 1969, in response to the need to address the problems of the Chinatown/International District community.
In 1979, InterIm established InterIm Community Development Association, a 501(c) (3), non-profit community development corporation, to continue working to promote the revitalization of the International District community for the benefit of its low income and minority residents, and small businesses. InterIm has worked to promote revitalization, but without gentrification and displacement, and has been actively involved in issues affecting the broader Asian/Pacific community.
