Description:
Kirkland Arts Center (KAC) provides quality visual arts education for thousands of Eastside and Puget Sound residents each year. Classes are offered for all ages and skill levels, and areas of expertise include ceramics, painting, drawing, glass fusing, sumi, and more. The Arts Center is also home to one of the few non-profit galleries on the Eastside. The KAC Gallery presents accesssible contemporary art exhibits that place regional artists within the national context. Exhibitions explore themes or trends in art through the eyes of emerging and newly established curators. The Center is housed in the 1891 Peter Kirk Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
History:
Built in 1891 by Peter Kirk, the Arts Center's building was a showpiece of what was then Kirkland's town center. In the early 1960s William Radcliffe, a teacher and artist, together with community members, purchased the building and founded what is now known as the Kirkland Arts Center, the first organization of its kind on the Eastside. Kirkland Arts Center has remained the at heart of the Eastside's art community ever since.

The Kirkland Arts Center is located just four blocks north of downtown Kirkland at the corner of 7th Avenue and Market Street. To reach the Center from I-405, exit at ramp #18. Head west on 85th Street NE, which becomes Central Way. Turn right at Market Street and drive to the corner of 7th Avenue.
From Seattle, take 520 east across bridge. Exit at Lake Washington Boulevard. Drive approximately 2 miles north on Lake Washington Boulevard into downtown Kirkland. Turn left at light onto Central Way. Drive two blocks and turn right onto Market Street. Drive four blocks to 7th Avenue.
Parking is available on the street, or in the First Baptist Church lot accessible from First Street. Handicapped parking is located behind the building. KAC is easily reached by Metro Bus on routes #234 and #255.
