Kids Co. provides and advocates for quality childcare that enriches and nurtures all children, supporting their success in school and in life.

Description:
Kids Co. provides early learning programs, before- and after-school care, and summer care for over 400 children each year, aged 2 1/2 to 12 years old. We provide more than $160,000 in scholarship funding to needy families each year. Nearly 40% of the families we serve rely on Kids Co. scholarships.

Each of our centers are located on-site at elementary schools. Our staff members have fostered close relationships with school teachers and principals, to provide the best continuum of care possible for the families we serve.

Five of our Kids Co. programs are on-site at Seattle Public Schools: Ballard (Adams Elementary), Queen Anne (John Hay Elementary), Eastlake/Capitol Hill (TOPS), South Seattle (Graham Hill Elementary), Southshore (The New School). We also serve all three elementary schools on Mercer Island (West Mercer, Island Park and Lakeridge).

Kids Co. curriculum includes, but is never limited to,
performing/visual arts, sports, community outreach, cooking and homework clubs. For nearly 20 years, Kids Co. has made quality care available to all children, regardless of ability to pay.

Our daily activities and themes, including summer programming, are enriching and stimulating while linked to the academic standards (within developmentally appropriate practices for child care). We believe that children are most successful when they come to school ready to learn, have a positive self-image, are fully supported in their social-emotional development and have consistent and nurturing experiences.

History:
Since we opened our first Kids Co. center at Adams Elementary in 1989, we have maintained a philosophy of turning no child away based on family income or ability to pay tuition fees. In our 2006-2007 fiscal year, we provided over $160,000 in in tuition assistance to families in need. For our 2007-2008 fiscal year, we will provide $175,000 in tuition assistance.

Furthermore, we do not set caps on the number of children we provide subsidized care to. Since no two families and no two situations are alike, we consider each request for subsidized care on a case-by-case basis.

One thing we are very proud of at Kids Co. is that each of our programs is uniquely designed to fit the needs and interests of the kids in the community it serves. No two Kids Co. programs look alike, but all provide quality care for the hundreds of families we serve.
