Last updated on September 12, 2007

Our mission is to "nurture, educate, strengthen and support children and their families so that each has the opportunity and skills to reach their full potential." Our programming is based on the philosophy that the primary responsibility for the development and well-being of children lies within the family, and all segments of society must support families as they rear their children.

Description:
Encompass is a family support center offering activities, resources and services to families in the Snoqualmie Valley and greater Eastside area. Our programs include: early childhood education for toddlers and preschool age children; early intervention for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities and support for their families; family support services including case management and one time information and referral; parenting education including classes, one to one coaching and workshops; and community activities that include family fun nights, a childcare cooperative, community festivals, school break programs and summer camps for children. In addition we have a Grandparents Raising Their Grandchildren Group, a Family, Friends and Neighbors Caregiver Project and an Early Learning Institute offering STARS approved trainings to early childhood providers in the community.

We offer these programs and activities throughout the Snoqualmie Valley. In North Bend (our building site)the full range of programming occurs. We are collaborating with the Riverview School District to offer many of the programs in the Carnation/Duvall area.

Our preschool has received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our family support programming has received recognition and accreditation from Family Support America, a national association for the promotion of the Family Support Principles.

As a non-profit organization we are governed by a volunteer board of directors who are individuals investing their time and talents to further our mission.

Encompass is imbedded in the Snoqualmie Valley and has become an integral part of the fabric of it's community. It is a great place for children and families.

History:
Encompass was founded 35 years ago by parents in order to provide educational opportunities for their special needs children. In its beginning as the "Sno-Valley Developmental Center" it's focus was on serving families with children and adults with developmental disabilities.

In 1970 the school began a partnership with the Snoqualmie Valley School District and operated the district's special education programs. During this decade the organization began to serve infants and toddlers as well as the school age children and in 1978 they opened an adult program. The adult program was aimed at training adults with developmental disabilities in practical living and work skills.

During the 1980's and early 1990's the center was plagued with flooding. 1988 was a year of big transitions when an ECEAP program was begun and the contract with the school district came to an end. The adult program, because of difficulties with transportation to and from most job sites and the challenge in the ability to effectively utilize funding was transfered to Community Enterprises of Issaquah. In 1995, our name was changed to Children's Services of Sno-Valley. In order to plan for the future, given all of the changes, the board commissioned a feasibility study to determine the course of action for the future. Out of their work following the study a capital campaign grew and our current site in North Bend was born. It was the first capital campaign in the history of the community and the members of the community were generous in their support of the project. One million dollars in funds and in-kind donations created a wonderful community-based family support center. The organization is unique in the wide variety of programs, activities and services it offers to the community. Very few communities have a resource similiar to our organization. It has been and will continue to be a great place for children and families to receive the support, information and connection to community that they need to grow in healthy ways.

After years of discussion, and a full year of reasearch and gathering community input, we have changed our organization name once again. Not only did we feel that we had again grown out of our old name, but we also found that with our previous name many people thought we were a part of Child Protective Services, a government agency with a very different mission than ours. Our new name, effective June 21, 2005 is Encompass. We are very excited with our new "look and feel" and are looking forward to bright future!
