Families & Friends of Missing Persons & Violent Crime Victims provides support to victims of violent crime and loved ones of missing persons. Through referrals and counseling we strive to help victims deal with the traumas of victimization and offer assistance and support in the courtroom and criminal justice process. We will provide leadership and advocacy for changes in public policy in support of victims rights and education on the effect of violent crime.
Description:
Crime victims, their families and their friends deal with more than just feelings of pain grief and anger, they must also cope with the complicated and often impersonal criminal justice system. Families & Friends is one of the oldest advocacy and support groups in Washington and one of the first groups in the nation. We offer services to crime victims, and their loved ones throughout Washington state regardless of case status. Our services are offered free of charge.
History:
Families & Friends formed on February 25, 1975 when 20 people gathered in a church auditorium in Seattle to discuss their experiences. They represented families of young women who had mysteriously disappeared in the Northwest during the previous year. Some of the young women later became known victims of serial killer Ted Bundy and other known serial killers.
