New Horizon School exists to provide a successful learning environment for students with learning disabilities, attention deficits, or other learning differences that enables them to maximize their individual academic, social, emotional, and behavioral potentials.

Description:
New Horizon School is an accredited private school of approximately 70 at-risk students in grades 6-12. We seek to provide an environment of trust and acceptance that is physically and emotionally safe so that individuals can reach their potential with self worth and confidence. Students who leave NHS have experienced an educational program that prepares them to be contributing members of society. Our graduates move on to employment, public school 18-21 programs, technical schools and community colleges. Our student-faculty ratio is approximately 9:1. About 15% of our students are placed by public school districts who cannot otherwise serve their special learning needs.

History:
New Horizon School, 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1995 by a group of committed educators and parents. NHS families and community volunteers donate over 3000 hours annually to school projects, committees, and board activities. We celebrated our first graduating seniors in June 1999. We purchased our permanent Renton site in 1999, added portables, a library, and a sports court, and have created a Facilities Master Plan. The NHS community approved a Strategic Plan in 2002 and a detailed School Improvement Plan in 2003. We recently renewed our 6-year accreditation through the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS). We are expanding our development program and hope one day to create an endowment that will provide financial aid to all students with learning differences who need NHS programs to succeed.

Overall Experience    Experience rating
It's a pleasure to work with people who appreciate your help
Savvy Solutions is an On-Site Computer Services company. I volunteered my time and experience to help NHS get their network and computers to a stable environment until they could get professional help in place. I gained a lot of useful knowledge that I can use in a corporate environment by catering to the special needs of the educational environment.
