Helping Hands for the Disabled

The Mission of Helping Hands for the Disabled is to give people with Developmental Disabilities the opportunity to achieve their potential and build their self-esteem. We encourage community involvement by advocating for and developing creative housing options.

Description:
We operate four residential programs in East King County. Champion House and Halcyon are group homes and each is home to eight people with severe and multiple disabilities. Visions and Trail House are operated as Intensive Tenant Support Programs. At Visions we provide 24 hour nursing to five people and two of them are ventilator dependent. At Trail House, we provide supervision and support to three young women who require total care. All of our homes are located in neighborhoods and our residents are involved in many community activities. We strive to take excellent care of our clients and our facilities.

History:
Helping Hands for the Disabled was established in 1975. We opened Champion House in 1983 and Halcyon in 1987. We have grown by developing new services to meet the changing needs of our residents. As we develop new programs for our residents, we also create new openings for people with similar needs. We have a contract for care with DSHS, but depend heavily on donations for items such as home maintenance, vehicle costs, recreational and social opportunities for our residents, staff training and necessities such as clothing and personal care product for our residents who have no family resources.
