Our mission is to encourage youth in the transition from homelessness to independent living through empowerment. The program is designed to meet the needs of Native American youth and other youth who are homeless or dependents in state or tribal courts.
Description:
Transitional Living Program (16-21 years old) is an 18 month program designed to facilitate a transition from homelessness to independent living. The State Dependents Program (14-17 years old) is long-term and interim care youth who are placed by DSHS/Tribal referral. We provided access to medical services, cultural activities, educational services, counseling, life skills and so much more.
History:
United Indians Youth Home previously named La-ba-te-yah Youth Home, was founded on January 1, 1992. The facility was based on the vision of Bernie Whitebear, Woody Verzola and others. Through many years of serving Native children establishing a home would be a way to keep them safe and provide them the opportunities to make positive and constructive choices and a better way in life.
