Supporting the independence of seniors is our mission.
Description:
We have activities and support services for seniors. We have some limited activities and services for disabled adults as well as two Adult Day Centers. We are 8,000 seniors, 55 and over, who meet in the Northshore Senior Center where services and activities are provided to enhance our well-being and independence and encourage our involvement in the community. Our 900 volunteers form the heart of the Center. Every service and activity provides a chance for each member to have a place in our operations. We have health clinics, classes, clubs, a computer lab, special events, Wellness Project, Adult Day Centers, social services and trips galore. Our coffee bar and lounges offer great opportunities for meeting old friends and making new ones. Our facility is completely handicapped accessible. History:
The roots of the Senior Center reach back to 1972, when a group joined together under the name of Senior Apollos. In March of 1974 the club, now known as the Northshore Senior Center, came under the auspices of the Northshore Recreation Program and the Northshore Multi Service Center. On August 13, 1974, the Bothell Park Board voted to move the historic building known as Lytle House to the Park at Bothell Landing. Lytle House was officially dedicated on May 10, 1978. The Center became a full member of Senior Services of Seattle/King County in 1983 and in the fall of that year received a Community Block Grant to double its size. In 1988, the Center mounted a campaign to create the Northshore Park and Recreation Service Area and pass a $3.6 million bond issue to build a new Center. The campaign was funded through trip commissions donated by Northshore Tours. An additional $500,000 was raised for construction and equipment, with major contributions from Boeing Employees Good Neighbor Fund, Northshore Rotary, GTE, and thousands of senior and community donations. The new facility opened in September 1992.
