Mamma's Hands mission is to reawaken within individuals the hope they need to regain their self-respect and their desire for a productive life.

Description:
Mamma’s Hands PHONE HOME Program reconnects and reunites the homeless living on the streets of Seattle with their families across the USA. The voice of a loved one on the phone, can make all the difference in the life of an individual living in despair. Each week, youth volunteers take the Mamma's Hands bus to downtown Seattle to offer food, blankets, and most importantly, a free cell call to homeless individuals who wish to reconnect with loved ones. When the situation is right, Mamma's Hands works with the individual's family to send them "home" to begin rebuilding their lives.

HOUSE OF HOPE: Mamma’s Hands HOUSE of HOPE provides a safe home where women and their children in crisis can rebuild their lives. Comprehensive, goal-oriented support services provided in an environment of warmth and sharing help them regain self-esteem, self-reliance and dignity. Our goal is to assist them in successfully transitioning back into society.

History:
Mamma’s Hands was formed in December 1990 by Denny Hancock. It was triggered by a chance meeting between Denny, a homeless father and his son.

In The Beginning
Inspired by the homeless father and son, Denny bought an old potato chip delivery truck. Together with his wife, children and a close friend, they packed it with food, clothing and blankets and drove through the streets of Seattle to help people in need. The first night they fed 50, the second night they fed 100.

A Growing Organization
As the numbers grew, Denny began to see the homeless needed more than just a warm meal. Soon Mamma's Hands services expanded. The PHONE HOME Program was born and later the House of Hope. Through generous sponsorships and volunteers, Mamma’s Hands has continued to grow and help more people in need.

The HOUSE of HOPE opened in 1995, providing women and their children in crisis a safe, structured environment in which to rebuild their lives. In 2004, the HOUSE of HOPE II opened, giving Mamma's Hands the capacity to serve an even greater number of those in crisis.
