THE AMERICAN RED CROSS, A HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION LED BY VOLUNTEERS AND GUIDED BY ITS CONGRESSIONAL CHARTER AND THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS MOVEMENT, WILL PROVIDE RELIEF TO VICTIMS OF DISASTER AND HELP PEOPLE PREVENT, PREPARE FOR, AND RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES.
Description:
We provide community and instructor classes in First Aid & CPR, CPR-Professional Rescuer, Babysitter training for youth, Life Guarding and Water Safety Instruction along with Family Care giving training. We offer these classes to businesses and schools. We provide relief to disaster victims and train the community in disaster services training. We participate in community fairs to educate the community about natural and man made disasters,and health and safety information. We also participate in Armed Forces emergency Services (AFES), such as tracing and relaying messages to Armed forces Personnel. The Red Cross does not receive any Federal funding. Our revenue is made by community members, and businesses taking Health & Safety such as CPR,FA Aquatic training, and Babysitters training. Grant writing and fundraising also help with the covering our over head cost. We are in need of volunteers to became Instructors in Health & Safety and Disaster. We are also in need of volunteers to take Disaster training so they can become a Disaster Action team members. A DAT member is to be on call in case of home fires or other disaster, but would be on call when that volunteer signs up to be on call. We are in need of volunteer to work with military personnel and family members. We also need volunteers to help with up dating our store,logging,restaurant and shelter agreements. Committee and Board Volunteers are also needed. Volunteer are what keep the Red Cross services available to our community . History:
Stark County Red Cross has been providing services to Stark County since October 11, 1917. In the past eleven years the Stark County Red Cross has provide Disaster relief to 46 families that have been affected by a home fire, flood, or a tornado. In the last nine years we have assisted 128 military personnel and their families. Armed Forces personnel and their families call the Red Cross office to send a messages to their loved ones about a illness, death, or birth. We also do tracing of military personnel that have not contacted their family for an extended period of time. In the past four years we helped have trained 13,843 people in First Aid and CPR, we have also trained 6,447 people in aquatics. 233 young students have been trained in babysitting since the program started in 1999.
