The mission of Communities In Schools of Seattle is to champion the connection of needed resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. Communities In Schools of Seattle partners with Seattle Public Schools and primarily serves schools in economically disadvantaged areas with a disproportionately high number of ethnic minorities. The fundamental beliefs of every CIS program are that every child needs and deserves:
- A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
- A safe place to learn and grow
- A healthy start in life
- A marketable skill to use upon graduation
- A chance to give back to their peers and community
Description:
CIS-S has three main components to help students succeed. School-wide prevention activities; Academic Support and Crisis Intervention. School wide prevention events affect the entire school population, for example we host a school supply drive for over 26 schools within Seattle, coordinate Family Fitness Night for multiple schools to raise health awareness, and goal setting programs, to name a few. Volunteer tutors are utilized in our academic programs in both reading and math, at the elementary and middle school level.
It is far too often the case that students who struggle in school also face struggles at home. Unfortunately schools are not
