The mission of the Lunch Buddy program is to provide individual attention and positive recognition for students by pairing them with caring adults from the community.
Description:
The Lunch Buddy program recruits and trains adult mentors from the community to spend an hour each week during the school year with students needing individual attention and positive recognition. The children develop a special relationship with a caring adult friend. The adults have a chance to make a difference in the future of our youth. The adult mentor eats lunch with their buddy once a week, and the pair has the opportunity to play games, do crafts, play in the gym or just talk.
History:
The Redmond Elementary Lunch Buddy program was started over 15 years ago, and the program has continued ever since. Several other schools in the Lake Washington district also have a lunch buddy program. Presently, ours is the largest program in the district.
