The First Tee of Greater Trenton recognizes the need to provide area youth with alternative and accessible forums for positive character development. We recognize that golf is an ideal forum to encourage this type of development, offering essential values including honesty, integrity and sportsmanship, among others. More importantly, The First Tee of Greater Trenton fulfills this need in an educational environment that is fun and exciting, and continually embraced by our participants.
Description:
The First Tee of Greater Trenton brings life-skills education to the children of Mercer County and upper Burlington County through the game of golf. Sessions are held year-round at schools, organizations and golf facilities. Each child is introduced to the game of golf and its inherent positive values through a modular based curriculum. As each child masters a level, the child is evaluate for proficiency, certified as proficient and invited to move to the next level. Our organization works with children aged 6 to 17 years of all socio-economic backgrounds. 85% of our students are on scholarship.
History:
Our chapter was formed in 2000 as a letter of intent chapter of The First Tee, an international agency. In 2003, we became a full chapter and have worked with children throughout the area. We currently have over 700 children enrolled in our Life Skills Education programs predominately in the City of Trenton and Hamilton Township.
