Nathan Clifford promotes lifetime learning through quality education, emphasizing cooperation, creativity, competence and confidence.

Description:
Nathan Clifford is a public elementary school serving over 305 K-5 students. It is located in the USM area of Portland and draws students from a broad area that includes Bayside, Libbytown, and Kennedy Park. The teachers, programs and activities at Clifford promote an active learning environment and its students consistently perform very well.
Nathan Clifford's population is economically and culturally diverse, with students from over 15 countries, speaking over 12 languages. Currently, over 65% of our school population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. According to the Maine Educational Assessment Data, our income levels fit into the following categories: 10-20% White Collar; 20-30% Blue Collar; 60-70% on Assistance; and 10% Destitute.
Clifford's school building, designed by John Calvin Stevens, was built in 1907. It is a beautiful and unique building that has many maintenance needs.
