To provide nutritionally balanced meals to individuals and families in crisis hunger situations, while providing resource counseling and referrals.
Description:
The Emergency Feeding Program (EFP) of Seattle & King County provides a proactive approach to addressing the hunger needs of individuals and families in crisis and emergency situations while providing resource counseling and referrals through a collaboration of 240 social and human service provider agencies. The program emphasizes providing healthy and nutritionally balanced meals which address specific dietary needs. The program has developed 14 different food bags to address different dietary needs and requests for services.
History:
Founded in 1977 as a joint venture between Black United Clergy for Action and the Church Council of Greater Seattle, the EFP now operates as an independent agency. The program has received local (SHSC '01- Program/Organization of the Year), regional (Helping Hands Award-1999), and national (Council of Churches of Christ of the USA - 1998) recognition for its services and unique, nontraditional approach to service.
