The mission of the Northshore Family Center is to build a stronger community where all families have the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, access resources and make connections
Description:
The Northshore Family Center is an informal community based center where families can find activities, support, resources and services to meet their needs and interests. Some of the programs offered by the Family Center include School Readiness programs, Parent-Child activities, Information & Referral services, Multi-cultural programming, ELL classes, children's clothing exchange, youth programming, indoor play park, Spanish Parenting classes, quarterly potlucks, community celebrations, and much more.
History:
A group of school and community partners (primarily from the Northshore Human Services Consortium) began meeting in the spring 2003 to explore the perceived need for a centralized family center that could expand school-based efforts to address non-academic barriers to student success and reach additional families from currently underserved neighborhoods in the Northshore area. As a result of these grassroots efforts, the Northshore Family Center opened its doors and hosted an open house in October of 2004. That evening, 300 individuals from 15 different countries participated in the event.
