Washington Wilderness Coalition works to preserve and restore wild areas in Washington state through citizen empowerment, support for grassroots community groups, advocacy and public education.

Description:
Washington Wilderness Coalition (WWC) works to:

  • Promote the development of wilderness proposals throughout the state,
  • Reduce significant threats to wilderness quality lands, and
  • Increase public support for wilderness preservation.

  • History:
    For nearly 30 years, Washington Wilderness Coalition has been working to protect wilderness in Washington state. WWC is presently working with local communities, elected officials, businesses, and other organizations to:

    • Educate the public about the need to protect the Wild Sky Wilderness area;
    • Stop destruction of our National Forest lands by Off- Road-Vehicles;
    • Protect over 2 million acres of wild roadless National Forest lands from logging, mining and road building;
    • Ensure the Eastern Washington forest planning process includes appropriate recommendations for wilderness designation;
    • Oppose salvage logging practices that destroy post- fire ecosystems and impede recovery;
    • Stop a Forest Service proposal to allow the use of helicopters and cyanide traps in wilderness areas to shoot wolves and kill other predators;
    • Stop irresponsible proposals to sell our public lands to private interests for development.
