Friends of the Orphans is dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children through our support of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) network of orphanages in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Description:
Friends of the Orphans provides support for orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children in Latin America and the Caribbean on behalf of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH). NPH provides food, clothing, shelter, health care and an education to the neediest children. Many of these children come from abusive backgrounds or have never had a stable home. Brothers and sisters from the same family enter NPH together and are promised they will never be separated. Each child is unconditionally accepted. NPH becomes their family and home; the children refer to themselves as Pequeños ("little ones") even when they are adults. Once in this secure and loving environment, they are taught the value of work, sharing and responsibility. Every Pequeño is taught a trade or life skill and provided the means to attend college, if they so elect. They learn to never give up, despite their sad backgrounds. As a result, many Pequeños are succeeding in life and are now teachers, farmers, administrators, veterinarians, dentists, artists and professionals who contribute to their own communities.

History:
Friends of the Orphans began in the Northwest in 1988 as a small non-profit supporting Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH). In 2005, Friends Northwest merged with four other "Friends of the Orphans" organizations around the United States to become a national organization. Our organization is based in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and has six regional offices throughout the United States.
