The Baltimore CASH Campaign wants working families to get all the credit they deserve. That's why the Campaign works to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit (ETIC) and provide quality tax assistance at no cost to families. The Campaign doesn't end with tax preparation. Working with financial institutions and community development organizations, the Campaign links families and individuals to asset building resources such as financial literacy classes, matched savings programs and mainstream banking opportunities.

Description:
The Baltimore CASH Campaign works to promote the economic stability and empowerment of low-income households in the Baltimore area. The campaign is the work of a coalition that includes foundations, nonprofits, community-based organizations, Baltimore City government agencies, the IRS, and hundreds of volunteers like you. The campaign focuses on helping working families maximize their financial opportunities and resources through the following activities:

  1. Conducting marketing and outreach about the ETIC

  2. Providing free income tax preparation to low and moderate income families to assist them in claiming the EITC and other available tax credits

  3. Connecting clients to asset development resources, including: financial coaching, financial education, and matched savings programs

  4. History:
The Baltimore CASH Campaign - Creating Assets, Savings and Hope, was formed in the fall of 2001 to implement strategies to increase economic opportunities for low-income Baltimore families. The Campaign focuses around "making work pay" by leveraging the tax code as a gateway to financial services. For the 2007-08 tax season, the Campaign prepared over 13,000 tax returns, claiming more than $13 million in state and Federal tax refunds and saving families tens of thousands of dollars in tax preparation fees. Since 2001, the Campaign has helped City residents claim over $11 million in EITC payments.
