Position title: Board Director
Description: Members of the Bent Arts Board of Directors provide leadership for the agency by setting policy, raising funds, and representing Bent in the community. Board members serve two-year terms and are expected to attend monthly meetings, participate in fund raising, and serve actively on a Board committee. Bent Arts welcomes applicants of all experience levels, from newbies to old hats. This Board offers multiple educational and mentoring opportunities and is a great place to both develop and share your skills.
Type of board position: Board of Directors
The process for selecting or nominating members:
  1. Applicant expresses interest by contacting Bent (Bent Board President) or is contacted by Bent after being recommended to the Board.
  2. Applicant receives the Bent Board Application.
  3. Applicant completes and submits the Bent Board Application.
  4. Applications are initially reviewed by the Board Development Committee. If selected at that stage, applicants are invited to the next Bent Arts Board meeting to meet with the current Board and to ask/answer any remaining questions.
  5. The Bent Arts Board then votes on the application.
  6. The applicant is contacted by the Board (generally Board President).
  7. New Board members are matched with a mentor from the Board who helps with their initial education and orientation.
The organization provides a formal orientation to new members: Yes
Additional information about this position: The Bent Arts Board or Directors has a traditional structure (including officers and monthly meetings); however, the culture of the Board and the organization as a whole is fairly informal. Board meetings use more relaxed "Bob's rules" and policy decisions often include interesting and meaningful discussions on values, community, and social change.

The Bent Arts Board is actively working to diversify its race, age, and gender demographic representation and to add to the skills sets present among Board members. Demographically , the Board is specifically seeking Directors who are people of color, under 25, over 40, gender variant, women, or men. Experientially, the Board is seeking Directors skilled in fund development, communications, management, legal issues, and education.
