Join EarthCorps, the Friends of Ravenna Ravine and the Green Seattle Partnership and Seattle Parks and Recreation as we work together to keep Ravenna Park healthy! You may have driven right over Ravenna Park and never realized that it was there! Hidden in a ravine that stretches under 15th Ave E, lies 50 acres of park complete with a gorgeous creek and tons of tall, tall trees. Ravenna Park has been in use as a park since the 1880s when visitors paid 25 cents to marvel at the giant Douglas Fir that called the park home. These days, we are working to preserve this hidden oasis. Invasive plants like English Ivy are threatening to overtake the trees and other native plants in the park. Our projects will include invasive plant removal and preparation of planting sites. Come help us keep Ravenna Park beautiful! EarthCorps supplies gloves, tools, water, light refreshments and a talk that covers safety, the park, forest structure, environmental restoration and the overview of the project. We suggest that volunteers dress in layers of older clothes that include long pants, long sleeve shirt and a jacket. Durable footwear such as work boots, hiking boots or running shoes are recommended for these events. These events take place rain or shine so please come prepared for the weather. Court-ordered community service volunteers are accepted. Youth volunteers are welcome. This is a service-learning opportunity. Volunteer with your family.
Youth under the age of 18 must bring a completed "Youth Volunteer Waiver" to the event. The minimum age for this opportunity is 10 years old. This opportunity is sponsored by: EarthCorps
