Northwest African American Museum Volunteer Opportunities Working to spread Art and Culture in our community
Last updated on December 5, 2007

The Northwest African American Museum will open its doors in March 2008 with exhibits and programming exploring the art, history and culture of African Americans in the Pacific Northwest. The long-term success of the Museum requires the support of its surrounding community. One way to provide this support is to serve as a Museum Volunteer. We invite you to join us as we embark on this extraordinary journey.

We have a number of exciting volunteer positions available, they include:

Docents
Docents will lead tours through the Museum’s galleries and assist the Education Director with activities in the NAAM Classrooms and Multimedia Learning Center.

Visitor Services Volunteers
Visitor Services Volunteers will greet visitors, answer questions, collect admission fees, sell memberships, answer the phone and orient visitors to the Museum's layout and resources.

Clerical Support Volunteers
Clerical Support Volunteers will assist with the Museum’s day-to-day operations. Tasks will include copying, collating, filing, helping with large scale mailings, and other clerical support.

Collections Volunteers
Collections Volunteers will help with the movement, handling and documentation of objects in the Museum’s care.

Interns
NAAM has a limited number of internships available for high school and college students. Selection is highly competitive and interns will be expected to have a sincere interest in furthering the mission of the Museum.

Youth volunteers are welcome. Volunteer with your family. This is a service learning opportunity.

Detail oriented, self-driven and comfortable using communication technology (i.e. telephone, computer, and walkie talkie). We would like all volunteers to be initiative-taking and proactive, with an ability to multi-task.

The minimum age for this opportunity is 14 years old.
