Volunteer Tutors Needed Working as a mentor or tutor

To come alongside developing readers, one-on-one or in small groups, encouraging, engaging, and challenging them to increase their reading skills. Tutoring sessions scheduled based on tutor availability and classroom/after-school program schedule. Anytime M-T from 9am-5pm is available. Specific requests are: Helping English Language Learner (ELL) students anywhere from 1:00-3:00PM M-F, Assisting 5th graders in math and reading anytime between 9:00AM-3:00PM M-F, Helping struggling 3rd graders catch up on work, finishing homework and reading anytime between 9:00AM-3:00PM M-F and also one-on-one reading tutoring from 3:10-4:10PM.

Youth volunteers are welcome. Get involved as a tutor. Volunteer with your family. This is a service learning opportunity.

  1. Ability to relate well with young children and desire to motivate them to improve their reading skills.
  2. Basic knowledge of English literacy skills (specifically, reading)
  3. Willingness to work cooperatively with program supervisor, other staff, and other volunteers
  4. Enthusiastic about reading and patient with kids of different reading levels
  5. Dependable and patient with a positive attitude

Anyone in 4th grade or above is eligible for this volunteer opportunity.
