Life Skills Program Volunteer
Last updated on August 26, 2008
Logo

LifeSkills is an evidence based substance abuse prevention program, aimed at reducing the rates of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse and violence in school-aged children. The program promotes healthy alternatives to risky behavior through activities designed to teach students the skills to resist social pressure, manage stress and anxiety, and develop greater self-esteem. In this way, LifeSkills targets the underlying social and psychological factors that can initiate risky behaviors, and helps students to acquire skills that will last them a lifetime.

Looking for someone with an interest in working with elementary and middle school students, leading interactive lessons and projects to promote self esteem and strengthen social skills and ability to resist peer pressure. Prefers previous experience with youth, and an interest in decreasing drug, alcohol, tobacco, and violence rates for Seattle public school children.

Able to commit to an average of 2 one-hour classes each week. Classes are taught within the quarter system – fall, winter, spring, to coordinate with public school schedules. Prefer commitment for the whole year.
