Meridian Park Mentors Working as a mentor or tutor
Last updated on July 3, 2008

Sometimes social and emotional issues get in the way of learning. Sometimes what a young person needs to be successful in school is a positive adult to support them. A consistent and caring relationship has been proven to help children learn in elementary school. Meridian Park School needs volunteers to be a role model and guide for youngsters grades 1-6. You will meet with your student once a week for 30 minutes for 36 weeks. Sometimes you will work on academics and school projects and sometimes you will read and play games. The focus is communication and listening. Youth volunteers are welcome. Get involved as a mentor- you will receive as much (maybe more) as you give.

Volunteers must attend an orientation and keep a log of their activities with their student. Volunteers must complete a WA State Patrol Background Check and register with the school volunteer coordinator. Volunteers meet 3 times a year for continued support and evaluate their service at the end of the year. The first orientation this year will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 2:45 PM at Meridian Park School. The minimum age for this opportunity is 16 years and older. High School students are encouraged to join us. A recommendation from their high school counselors is necessary.
