New Hampshire Mediation Program dedicates itself to the use of restorative practices in dispute resolution of family and interpersonal conflicts that are best solved by the individuals involved rather than by institutional justice. Mediators facilitate difficult conversations to help participants find common ground, make decisions and solve problems.
Description:
New Hampshire Mediation Program provides free mediation and victim/offender dialogue services in Merrimack County. Volunteers complete a 30 hour training and intern with experienced mediators. NHMP provides on-going supervision and continuing education opportunities.
New Hampshire Mediation Program also offers mediation services for divorce and post-divorce issues on a fee-for-service basis (reduced fees available.) Training in peer mediation, conflict resolution and related communication workshops for school and community groups are available. Program volunteers are welcomed into a community of mediators whose goals are to allow people in conflict to have a safe, confidential place to listen to each other and find mutually agreeable solutions and lasting agreements.
History:
New Hampshire Mediation Program started in 1979 and was established as a private, non-profit organization in 1981. It has been training volunteer mediators and coordinating family (and more recently Victim/Offender) mediations in central New Hampshire for over twenty years as an alternative to the traditional resolution process available through the court system. In January 2005, NHMP became a program of Community Action Program ~ Belknap and Merrimack Counties, Inc.
