The Rape and Domestic Violence Crisis Center provides cohesive support to victims/survivors of sexual violence and domestic violence and stalking and creates a sensitive public awareness of their needs. No one deserves to be beaten or raped or to live in fear of being beaten or raped. This organization strives to empower people to make decisions and to take control of their own lives. The Crisis Center makes positive changes through direct services and social action.
Description:
The Rape and Domestic Violence Crisis Center provides the following services: 1) 24 hr./day crisis line; 2) court advocacy; 3) emergency transportation; 4) hospital advocacy; 5) social service advocacy; 6) emergency shelter; 7) peer support groups; 8) education and outreach.
History:
The Crisis Center was founded in 1978 by a small group of people, one of whom was a survivor of domestic violence. This small group recruited women and men who were interested in providing services, specifically crisis intervention and safe homes to victims/survivors of sexual violence and domestic violence and stalking.
