Orientation and Training new volunteers will be held on Wed July 9 from 6-9:00 pm. Orientation includes facility tour, meeting staff, learning about Equest and volunteer opportunities and an introduction to therapeutic riding.
Training for sidewalker volunteers includes an overview of the benefits of therapeutic riding, disabilities awareness, safety, horse behavior and scheduling. Includes hands on session with Equest Staff and horses in a simulated lesson.
Sidewalkers must be a minimum of 14 years of age. Vigorous walking is required. Sidewalkers act as spotters, walking along side a student with a disability while they are mounted on a horse. Commitment of a minimum of 30 minutes per week for an 8 or 12 week session.
