VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

Volunteer Emergency Families For Children (VEFC)
[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on March 10, 2008

VEFC’s mission is helping children and youth in crisis. VEFC recruits, trains and supports volunteers who provide short-term shelter care and mentoring to abused, neglected, runaway, homeless, and at-risk children and youth in Virginia.

Description:
Can you set another place at your dinner table? Do you have a safe bed for a child to sleep? Room in your heart for a child with nowhere to go? Volunteer Emergency Families for Children (VEFC) is in need of people willing to open their homes to local children in crisis. VEFC recruits and trains volunteers to provide short term (1-21 days) safe shelter in their homes to children who have been abused, neglected etc. Volunteers can choose the age, gender and length of each stay.

Each local VEFC program also has a group of dedicated volunteers who work with VEFC staff to maximize the effectiveness of their local VEFC program. The Community Councils meet 8-10 times each year and assist with such projects as volunteer recruitment, community awareness, local program fund-raising projects, and family appreciation and recognition.
