Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community. United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions. You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group. Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register. Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register. VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896. If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

Our mission is to promote responsible animal ownership. We do this by providing assistance to reduce animal over-population; placing animals in need of a permanent home in safe and loving environments through our foster care program; and serving the community through education and dedication to protecting the moral and ethical right of all living creatures.
Description:
The Floyd County Humane Society does not presently have a fixed location. We work directly out of private homes and serve Floyd County, which includes Floyd, Check, Willis and Indian Valley. Our volunteers help with transporting animals to rescues, vets and spay/neuter clinics; making posters for events; helping with fund raiser events; writing grants; and helping in any way to get donations (money or material items) for our animals. The Society was organized in Dec. 2000. As the membership grew, we were able to reach out to the citizens of Floyd and reduce the pet population by offering low cost spay/neuter programs with the help of grants and donations. We educate citizens by speaking to school kids and organizations. We offer many fund raising events that have helped us to raise money to continue our work.
