VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

Styleburst Project

Last updated on October 10, 2008

The Styleburst Project is an all-volunteer project that provides free makeovers for individuals receiving services from New River Valley Community Services. Most events take place at the Fairlawn Goodwill where participants choose a new "outfit" of up to three items of clothing. Volunteer staff members give feedback to participants as to what items are most flattering. After the clothing is chosen, hair and makeup styling are provided, also by volunteers. This project is designed to be a self-esteem boost for very deserving people. A degree in fashion or cosmetology is not necessary. We are looking for volunteer staffers with style and enthusiasm! Styleburst events take place on weekdays and last for three to four hours total.
