VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

We are a caring and diverse community bringing spirit, love, justice, learning, and reason to our congregation and to the larger world. We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We covenant to work together to create an atmosphere of equality, trust and compassion within our congregation and the larger community.

Description:
Our doors are open to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, political leanings, sexual orientation, or background. We believe that freedom of conscience is the core of true religion and that diversity of belief enlivens our congregation. As one of our forefathers noted: we do not have to think alike to love alike.

We aim to encourage our young people to be religiously literate, spiritually aware, make life-affirming choices, develop a sense of social responsibility, and to be prepared for life in a multi-faith/multi-cultural world.

We seek to create an environment where young people develop self-esteem, respect others, worship, learn to connect with friends, and with nature, in a caring and sharing atmosphere. A growing number of UU congregations (perhaps 75%) are utilizing small groups as a way of helping people connect and support each other. The reason is that they work – they are effective in providing their members with something they were lacking in a “typical” church environment. The term “small-group ministry” recognizes that we can all “minister” to each other – a facet of what UU theologian James Luther Adams called “the priesthood of all believers.” Our small-group ministry serves the fundamental purpose of the Covenant Group model, which is to give our friends and members a safe place to discuss those ideas and beliefs that are most important to them.
