Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

Homeless Intervention Program (HIP)

HIP is a nonprofit program of New River Community Action, Inc. HIP gives assistance to New River Valley families who are homeless or are in serious danger of becoming homeless and who are in a temporary financial crisis due to unavoidable circumstances.

Description:
HIP assistance to qualifying NRV residents includes no-interest loans or grants for payment of rent or mortgage, as well as security deposit assistance. HIP also provides housing counseling to assist participants in setting long-term goals for financial independence. HIP also offers first time homebuyer's classes for people interested in learning more about purchasing houses and what goes into making your final decision.

Potential clients are pre-screened at local New River Community Action offices in the City of Radford, Floyd County, Montgomery County, Giles County, and Pulaski County.
