VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential.
The values we strive to instill are based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law.

Description:
Scouting has one program - Comprehensive Youth Development. Working through partnerships with churches, schools, civic clubs, and community groups, boys and young adults are taught the knowledge, skills, and abilities that support character development, citizenship training and fitness. Components of the program center around outdoor adventure, leadership training, an advancement program, and community service opportunities.

Scouting, though its unique structure, provides opportunities for youth to learn to make ethical decisions while learning from strong male adult role models. These role models work with a young man to develop character, train in citizenship, and build mental and physical fitness. In the combination of adventure and character building the role model encourages the youth to set goals and succeed, while praising him along the way. In the process young men develop a mentor bond with their role model as they learn new life skills and, over time, see their role model demonstrate positive character through living the Scout Oath and Law.
