VT Engage Logo

Virginia Tech created a new volunteer program called VT-ENGAGE to encourage volunteerism and enhance the relationship and partnership efforts between the university and the community.

United Way and VT-Engage are community partners in an effort to match volunteers with organizations needing volunteer help by utilizing an online system called Volunteer Solutions.  You can use Volunteer Solutions to find volunteer opportunities and/or post the volunteer needs of your group.

Volunteers: We encourage you to register and complete a volunteer profile so you can receive email alerts about opportunities you would like. Click here to register.

Non-Profits: Register your group's volunteer and donation needs so you can receive email alerts about matches to help you. Agencies and organizations, click here to register.

VT-ENGAGE reaffirms Virginia Tech's commitment to service worldwide and helps people actively live out its motto, Ut Prosim, That I May Serve – established in 1896.

If you live outside the New River Valley area, simply enter the zip code of your community in the U.S. and opportunities listed closest to you will be listed.

Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread

Last updated on September 23, 2008

It is the mission of Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread to provide the facility, preparation, and serving of a free hot noon-day meal to persons in need of such nourishment.

Description:
The Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread (RFDB) is overseen by a Board of Directors and a kitchen manager. The manager serves as the cook and along with the assistant cook, they are the only compensated participants in RFDB.

RFDB serves a free, hot lunch at our kitchen/dining facility five days a week, to anyone who comes in and takes a seat at a table.

RFDB also has the responsibility for the Meals on Wheels Program for Radford and Fairlawn. Five days a week, volunteer drivers pick up the meals at the RFDB kitchen and deliver them to people who have been identified as in need of a meal and are unable to come to the kitchen to eat. Again, this is at no cost to the recipient.

RFDB has a third program which is the distribution of free USDA purchased groceries to families that qualify. This involves RFDB picking up a monthly order for friends who have signed the form that says they qualify. And distributing that food directly to the participants. The food is usually picked up on a Thursday and the food distributed on a Friday.
