Virginia Tech has announced a new initiative called VT-ENGAGE (www.engage.vt.edu) to honor the victims of April 16, 2007 and their commitment to service worldwide and reaffirm its commitment to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). You can use Volunteer Solutions to post the volunteer needs of your group or to find volunteer opportunities. The volunteer opportunities listed closest to where you live will be listed.
The goal for the Virginia Tech Community: sign up for and perform 300,000 hours of community service by the end of the spring semester. The goal for Virginia Tech alumni: pledge and perform 300,000 hours of community service by the end of the spring semester. Children's Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) of New River Valley is currently developing a volunteer transportation service to augment existing public transportation services. This will enable families with young children to access necessary health care and other vital services.
Access to quality health care is a necessity for everyone, and in the formative years, young children require extra attention. Health check-ups and immunizations are essential for children to grow up happy and healthy and ready to enter school, and sick children need to see a doctor for prevention of chronic health conditions. Many of the New River Valley's parents have no reliable means of transportation, making access to much-needed community resources difficult, and at times, impossible.
Volunteer must maintain a valid driver's license and liability insurance.
